Eric Solberg, Master of Whateverness
One day at a time.
Jack of all trades. Swiss Army knife. All-around tech business pro. In more than 17 years in the industry, Eric has done it all and brings this wide experience to Urban Prairie. One of the early adopters of 3D/4D software technologies, he moved quickly into advanced architectural graphics long before its use became commonplace.
At previous roles he was tapped to implement and help train an entire staff on Autodesk Revit BIM Software, as well as provide broad scope IT support.
Sparked by his entrepreneurial spirit, Eric teamed with a shop for end-to-end promotional asset solutions for real estate developers, and later founded an IT company focused on the AEC community. It was this role that led him to Urban Prairie, drafted as that elusive utility player who now keeps the firm’s IT and business administration humming, while still providing the project support skills that started it all. “I’m very passionate about what’s happening in the industry and collaborating with others to promote smarter processes.”
Known by colleagues as the guy who can see things at 30,000 feet or 3 feet, Eric believes the key to great architecture is usually what you don’t see. “It’s a feeling you have when you’re using the space. When you’re in it you don’t realize all the complexity, you just experience what it’s supposed to be.”
Outside the office, Eric spends time well, outside. Whether it’s biking, skiing, snowboarding or ongoing home renovation projects, he’s always in action. That includes within the Kansas City community—Eric maintains an active interest in city development and neighborhood issues, lending his voice and hands to important community causes.
